About the

Youth House

Young people need a physical space, where they can socialize, share experiences, and learn from each other. A space is needed where they can meet up, and develop their social, emotional, and cognitive skills, while experiencing recognition, happiness, friendship and what it means to be part of a group and a positive community.  At the same time, a safe place is needed for KRCS to facilitate youth activities and trainings, which provide the young people with important skills to handle the many challenges they face.

Danish Red Cross Youth (DRCY) in collaboration with Danish Red Cross (DRC) and Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), are building a youth house for the young people of Kibera. The house is being established on KRCSs site in Dagoretti- Nairobi and will be open for all young people. It will be a place, where young people can go and meet other young people in safe surroundings. At the same time, the house will host relevant activities, workshops, and trainings, arranged by the youths themselves and by the KRCS.

2 PSS youth volunteers from Nairobi County are needed to support the assessment of psychosocial needs of the youth visiting the Youth House by identifying, documenting, and analyzing and responding to the identified needs by providing direct Psycosocial Support (PSS).

  2. Consults with Couty youth officer regarding case management and care planning.
  3. Provide mental health counselling regarding the cause, symptoms and prevention strategies of various mental health diagnoses and crime.
  4. Provide counselling regarding the use and effects of alcohol and drugs.
  5. Prepare needs and risk assessments.
  6. Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, conversations and referrals.
  7. Coordinate and facilitate educational workshops on mental health and addiction related topics.
  8. Maintains appropriate documentation of services to youths, including intakes, assessments and progress notes.
  9. Provide Individual and group counselling.
  10. Any Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  5. Effective listening, observation and facilitation skills to effectively assess youths and provide appropriate consultation.
  6. Strong mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills to respond or assist in emergency situations.
  7. Must be a youth residing in Nairobi County.
  8. Must be a youth between 24- 30 years.
  9. Should be a volunteer at Kenya Red Cross Society.

  7. Respond to ICT related queries and provide the necessary assistance.
  8. General ICT related administration duties.
  9. Any Other Duties as assigned by the supervisor.
